The Smell of Hops

It was the end of the day and Miranda decided to end off her night with a trip to the bar. It was the weekend so she would treat herself to a drink. Probably only one drink really, she was the mayor after all and she couldn't have her the townspeople thinking she was a drunk or anything. Of course a glass of wine was suitable, but she couldn't drink to get drunk or even tipsy. Not in public at least. She of course, had her fair share of drinks before. Especially after Jason had died. But only in the safety of her own home, alone with no one around to see. She would never admit that though. Again, couldn't have the townspeople thinking she was a drunk.

She stepped into the bar of the brewery, she enjoyed coming here. It felt homey and comfortable, even if it smelt a bit at times. She wasn't sure how she felt about the owner however. Then again she always felt a little skeptical of most newcomers, especially when they wanted to own a business right off the bat. She sat down at the bar and ordered a beer. Holding it in her hand she sipped at it slowly, savoring it while it still lasted.

Another day under his belt. As always it went flawlessly and really he wasn't surprised in the least. It's what he did. Of course there wasn't that much heavy police work that needed tending to, but that shouldn't deter away from the job that was completed. However the day would end, Wyatt sure felt that he had earned an after work beer. He did prefer the saloon, since there was always those really cute blonds, you know the ones. With their extra short shorts, and too tight tops. After last nights -- misunderstanding, he thought it best to let them cool off before showing his face in there. If she didn't want to get hit on, then she shouldn't dress so provocatively. It was simple as that. She was practically throwing herself at him anyways. The girl had a few screws loose, obviously.

Pushing the front door open, the sweet smell of oak and hops drafted towards him. Surrounding and taking over his senses. Wyatt surveyed the room before making his way to the bar. Various people spread out sporadically, clearly not the same type of clientele the saloon had to offer. As he got closer to the bar he noticed Miranda enjoying a beer, a quick smirk took a hold of his lips. "Well, well, didn't fancy you for a beer drinker Ms Williams." He took a hold of the set to her right, his grip on the top of the chair, pulling it out, but withholding from sitting right away. He could tell from previous encounters that she was totally into him. He always curious about older women, but with being so occupied with the so many other women he hadn't had much chance at taking that path. Looks like it was her lucky day.

Wyatt took off his hat, brushing his dirty blond hair back with this fingers, before placing the hat onto the bar top. "Mind some company?" he asked. Prematurely sitting down, assuming that the answer was going to be yes.

Miranda was a bit lost in thought when she heard someone speaking to her. "Sheriff, nice to see you here." She set her beer bottle down for a moment. "Well I usually prefer wine, but sometimes one just really needs a beer." She smiled a bit. She tried to keep it classy most of the time, but sometimes it was nice to just forget about that. If only she could do it more. She loved being mayor and all, but there was times she wished she could get away from it all. Dress unprofessionally, go anywhere she wanted, drink whatever she wanted, without always being in the eyes of the people. In a small town like this it was impossible to make mistakes without somebody knowing, and if somebody knew then everyone knew. It was a bit stressful at times, but worth it in the end. She was especially glad for it now, it was a constant distraction for her. 

She was about to tell him to join her, but before she could he was already sitting down. She wouldn't have said no, but it still seemed a bit rude of him. She knew he was like that however, she didn't mind too much. "How was your day Sheriff? Anything of interest?" She asked as if she didn't know, but realistically if anything too interested had happened she probably would have known about it. It didn't hurt to ask though, maybe he would have some interesting story. She picked up her beer again and took a drink.

Typical women. Always thinking that they have to have some sort of excuse. That they couldn't just enjoy beer and drink it. Did they actually think that it made the least of a difference to a man? As long as the drink ended with the same result, all didn't matter. But hey, where was Wyatt to judge. "Uh huh." he replied to her comment. "Well, your secrets safe with me, ma'am." Placing a bill on the bar top, he slid it towards the bartender as he made his way up. After placing his order, he brought his attention back to Miranda. "So, if you ever need to sneak a beer in, you know who to call." He shot her a quick wink, before taking the beer out of the tenders hand. The bottle coming to his lips, which were altered by his slight grin.

In the world of authority, there was always something, right? Nothing but people needing guidance and he was just the man to do it. "Well, you know. The day in the life of an authoritative figure, is never easy." He replied, with a wink before talking a couple swigs from the bottle. Shrugging, he assumed it was only polite to return the favor. "How about for you?" He couldn't imagine it being very exciting being the mayor. Oh, cut a ribbon here. Sign something there. Like, well. Just look at her. It's not like she appeared to be the most interesting of people. Her hair pulled back, no make-up, glasses and don't get him started on the bland material she called clothing. "Can I be honest with you Mayor?" He leaned back in his seat, his empty hand gently resting on the bar top, as he gave her a once over. "What you hiding from?"

She smiled at him a bit and gave him a polite nod. "Sure thing Sheriff." Though she didn't feel as though it was much of a secret, surely anyone who decided to come to the bar tonight could see her drinking a beer. As long as she didn't drink too much or drink on the job, it didn't really matter what she drank did it? Everybody else in town loved beer, that's why there was a brewery. She glanced away for a moment, she could only think about Jason's love for beer. He didn't just like drinking beer, he had an actual interest in the different kinds of beers and how they were made. Sometimes he would even talk about owning his own brewery. A dream she so desperately wished could have come true.

She glanced back at Wyatt again to listen to him speak. "No it's never easy is it. But at least there's never a dull moment." It was all worth it in the end, especially when she got the chance to go around town and really take the time to appreciate how great the whole town was. Everyone helped to make the town a great place, and she wouldn't want to be anywhere else. "Ah well it was a bit of a day off for me. I wasn't in the office at least, but you know how it is. There will a,ways be phone calls and emails. Life doesn't take a break just because I do." She shrugged like what can you do? before continuing to sip on her beer, being disappointed as she noticed the bottle was beginning to empty despite her efforts to keep it full. "Of course Sheriff." She nodded for him to continue before glancing back at him, a bit shocked and confused as his question. "I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand your question. I'm not hiding from anybody." Surely he must be confused, she wasn't hiding. Did he mean why she was here? Couldn't she enjoy a beer in the brewery without reason?
